Banded Agate Dragon Carving with Natural Quartz Druzy Geode | Large 4.25" Crystal Sculpture

This is one of those carvings where the natural stone became part of the artwork.

Measuring approximately 4.25 inches tall and 4.25 inches wide, this substantial dragon sculpture was carved from beautifully banded agate while leaving a large portion of the natural crystalline interior exposed.

Deep black and charcoal stone is crossed by striking ribbons of white, gray and smoky coloration. The banding travels directly through the dragon's wings, body and base, making the natural pattern part of the carving itself.

At the center is a dramatic open crystalline formation with pale translucent crystal growth and a darker druzy-lined cavity. Rather than polishing away this natural feature, the carver incorporated it directly into the scene.

The dragon wraps around the geode with its wings sweeping over the top and sides, while intricate details continue around the entire sculpture.

This is both a natural mineral specimen and a detailed decorative carving.

The exposed crystalline cavity, natural openings, variations, veins, small pits, fractures and transitions between polished and raw areas are part of the original stone and the carving process. They should not be considered manufacturing defects.

This one is incredible. What makes it special to me isn't just the dragon—it is how the dragon was carved around the actual geode. Those crisp white and gray bands travel straight through the wings and body, then suddenly open into that large crystalline center. Turn it around and there is detail everywhere. This is definitely a statement carving.
